News Flash Here We Go!
Its been pretty quite lately, but I have been slowly working and doing some lecturing and workshops which I love so much. Ever since I was a little girl I have always wanted to be a creative teacher, and have been so blessed to find that in helping my students in workshops and other programs, I am living my artistic dreams today!
Here are a few new works I have created in the last three months and also you can come back and see some of the works of my students in the workshops I have taught recently at the North west quilters guild.
Enjoy- Wendy.

'Rythyms of Africa' Winner! Winner!! Winner!!!
The 38th Annual North West Quilt show took place from the 29th to 30th of March and we had a big winner in the art quilt Category, my African inspired quilt 'Rythyms of Africa' picked up first place in the art Quilt category. This is the story of Rythyms of Africa.
Rythyms of Africa depicts the spirit of African dance, in most African villages to date, the sound and rythym of drums expresses the mood of the people, and resonates the heart beat of a community, such is the power of drumming and dancing, to touch the souls of those who hear its rythym.
As an artist far away from my native homeland, I have nostalgic feelings of Africa, simple things like tribal dance, festivals, and listening to the messages of the talking drums are things I long for every day, in order to connect with the good spirit of my heritage, I am inspired to dance.
I created 'Rythyms of Africa' to depict the happy spirit of dance.
Art work is raw edge machine appliqued and machine quilted, hand dyed fabrics for the background and a mixture of Kente Prints.
Dimensions ~ 43L 62.5W
Join me in celebrating 'Rythyms of Africa' and come back again to see more of my collection in the 38th Annual North West Quilters Guild show, it was just Eye Candy!

Asabone Dancers
Asabone in Ghana means wild dancing which is the name for this art quilt pattern series, because of how my two dancers have let themselves go wild while dancing, while the men play the drums.
This is a very normal way of entertaining in most African villages and is common practice.
Artist Statement
This art work is raw edge, machine appliqued and machine quilted with Kente prints as fabric of choice.

Touch of Impressionism
Its a pretty long while since I spent time on my blog, which I love so much and really never deserted it, I spent a lot of time campaigning for the Deceptively Yummy Cupcakes signature pincushion line which is doing so well and I have more buns cooking, working towards quilt festival.
Many people wonder why I do not put my quilts in all the big shows every where, well I have a great answer for them, I do not do well working under extreme guidelines and restrictions, I feel it does not let me unleash my creativity well enough. At certain levels, I would work with that, but not every time. I call myself a hybrid that works in many mediums and even though I love abstract quilts, pictorials are my main thing, and I get restricted so much to work in abstract when in groups, I easily get bored. When I stay territorial I am true to myself I get better results.
My festival year starts in March, and goes all year round and its going to be one exciting year, teaching, lecturing, and dancing with Kente and Adinkra prints all in my work for 2012. Here is a mini quilt amongst some of the stuff I am playing with for 2012.
Happy New Year readers!
Wendy.
