Nature's Splendor. Now featured on 'The Quilt Show' June 2014!

Growing up in Ghana West Africa, we had lots of livestock that my dad loved to breed; there were chicken, duck, geese, pigs, sheep, goat, turkey, rabbit, guinea pig, and grass cutter. This made me develop a love for nature and animals, daddy also loved to cultivate the food for these creatures, so we always lived close to a stream or river where he would use the water to irrigate the farm.

There was so much land to wonder about on, and I would often sit by the river or stream and listen to the Cricket's and the Cicada bugs. They had a very distinct sound that centered me in my mind and kept me calm.

In such places I found a sense of calm where I could reflect. Today as an artist far away from my homeland, I come across similar places when I walk the outdoors, and the looks of these places take me back to the serene places I loved as a child and found calm, and sometimes I must create these sceneries.

Natures Splendor is an art piece that takes me back to my childhood days bringing great memories stitched in fabric.

News Flash Here We Go!

Its been pretty quite lately, but I have been slowly working and doing some lecturing and workshops which I love so much. Ever since I was a little girl I have always wanted to be a creative teacher, and have been so blessed to find that in helping my students in workshops and other programs, I am living my artistic dreams today!
Here are a few new works I have created in the last three months and also you can come back and see some of the works of  my students in the workshops I have taught recently at the North west quilters guild.
Enjoy- Wendy.

SPRING

Spring is one of the four seasons, the transition period between winter and summer. Spring and "springtime" refer to the same season, and broadly to ideas of rebirth, renewal and regrowth. The specific definition of the exact timing of 'Spring' varies according to local climate, cultures and customs. In Spring the equinox days are close to 12 hours long with day length increasing as the season progresses.

The freshness of Spring enlivens my senses and makes me happy, its a time of growth and rebirth, a time to make things right, letting the past go to sleep. When the tulips break open in Spring and begin to flower, I know its time to bury the past. This quilt called 'Spring, is symbolic of a brand new day!

Artist Statement
Spring was created using the Confetti technique of piecing, fabrics used are tulle and polyester. Work is machine stitched and quilted.
Dimensions 331/2L 43W

Braid and Stitch is proud to announce that SPRING has found its spot in a happy home and Private Collection in Ghana. West Africa.

'Rythyms of Africa' Winner! Winner!! Winner!!!

The 38th Annual North West Quilt show took place from the 29th to 30th of March and we had a big winner in the art quilt Category, my African inspired quilt 'Rythyms of Africa' picked up first place in the art Quilt category. This is the story of Rythyms of Africa.

Rythyms of Africa depicts the spirit of African dance, in most African villages to date, the sound and rythym of drums expresses the mood of the people, and resonates the heart beat of a community, such is the power of drumming and dancing, to touch the souls of those who hear its rythym.

As an artist far away from my native homeland, I have nostalgic feelings of Africa, simple things like tribal dance, festivals, and listening to the messages of the talking drums are things I long for every day, in order to connect with the good spirit of my heritage, I am inspired to dance.
I created 'Rythyms of Africa' to depict the happy spirit of dance.

Art work is raw edge machine appliqued and machine quilted, hand dyed fabrics for the background and a mixture of Kente Prints.
Dimensions ~ 43L 62.5W

Join me in celebrating 'Rythyms of Africa' and come back again to see more of my collection in the 38th Annual North West Quilters Guild show, it was just Eye Candy!
